TREVOR J. BROWN - Founder, CEO & Show host
A graduate of Brown College in 2007, Brown has worked for a variety of radio stations in the Twin Cities area and also held jobs in the fields of advertising, marketing, sales, recruitment and staffing. For nearly twenty years, whether via traditional radio or podcasting, Brown has taken pride in delivering engaging interviews and commentary to central Minnesota and beyond.
Trevor started Inherent Dream out of his love for various forms of media, including radio and podcasts, music, tv, art, photography, books and film. Trevor is a self-confessed Beatles nerd, but he loves a variety of music… Blink-182, Death Cab for Cutie and Coldplay are some other acts he enjoys. He enjoys a good pizza and buffalo wing, getaways to the north shore and says Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is his favorite film from the last decade.

4/21/2025 - I want to make one thing clear. You want to start a podcast, start a podcast. You want to write a book, write a book. You want to be an actress, go act. You don’t need permission to chase your dream. You can do any damn thing in this life that you want to do. But also, a word of caution, you might not like it. Maybe you change your dream. Or perhaps, you are not all that good at it. That is a possibility.
I played basketball growing up. I was damn good on my in-house basketball team up through sixth grade. Oh yes I was! But in middle school, I, a 13 year old kid, realized that many of the kids around me were faster, stronger and yes, better at the game. I continued to play the game. I continued to practice a million jumpers in my driveway at home. But by tenth grade, I got tired of being on the bench and not playing. So I pivoted. I wanted to still be around the game I loved, while knowing I wasn’t going to the NBA. This is when I started getting into broadcasting and the rest is history. I went to school for radio broadcasting and between traditional radio and podcasting, I have been working in the industry for twenty years. Woah. Time flies. I am getting old.
Let me ask you something… what did you go to school for? I am not asking this question with any animosity. I truly want to know.
I had this conversation with my wife over the weekend… It irritates the hell out of me when EVERYBODY and ANYBODY thinks they can do a radio broadcast or a podcast now. I told her that this is the equivalent of me offering massage therapy. FYI, she is a massage therapist. I have no formal training, education or background in massage therapy, yet imagine if I just said, sure I can do that and not only that, I am good at it! YEAH RIGHT! You would go to a trusted professional for a relaxing massage. Now am I the utmost professional with a podcast? HAHA… NO! But you get my point… well hopefully.
People want to be the celebrity without putting in the work. They invest in the big neon sign for the podcast so it can be shown, but they don’t know how to ask a damn follow-up question. They want to start the merch line. They want to talk. But they don’t know the game.
Podcasts have jumped the shark. I have been saying it for a minute now. In fact, I’ll go a step further. No signs of life. Podcasts are dead. GAME OVER!
3/4/2025 - With each day that goes by, I am feeling more and more like an alien… someone who doesn’t compute with what is going on in our culture. Our culture has gotten so thirsty for attention and validation from complete strangers.
But Trevor, you could get rich! You could be famous! You could have it all!
OK, but at what cost?
Some of the things I see online are just ridiculous. Frankly, I am not sure how or why they come up in my algorithm on the social media channels. From females asking males whether they would like to kiss them on the lips or slap their behinds, to males poorly interviewing scantily clad co-eds and talking about sex or whatever, I ask the simple question… who cares?
But Trevor, you must care because you are writing and complaining about it right now!
OK, maybe I am becoming the old man that yells at the clouds. Maybe I am becoming grandpa from The Simpsons. But at least he is a lovable character!
I’ll be 39 this summer, and then 40 next summer. And as I get closer to 40, I feel like there is a time in every person’s life where they tap out on certain things. Don’t get me wrong, I still want to learn and grow in my profession, friendships and relationships. I want to be a better husband, brother, son and friend. But I don’t need to sell out for that. You don’t need to sell out to be a good person. I guess it could be true you could be a good person and still become a highly successful influencer. But there seems to be a cost associated with everything these days.
Remember, it costs you nothing to be a good, decent person. And I guess if I had to choose between being decent and selling out to get the validation of strangers, well, perhaps I am a crappy writer and didn’t prove my point in this blog.
2/21/2025 - As a business owner, I have always struggled with how people communicate. Yes, you read that right. Let me explain…
I always try to go above and beyond with communication. I am always early for meetings. I always confirm the meeting a couple of days in advance. I like to communicate with others how I would expect to be communicated with. Maybe I am asking too much, but my goodness most people are awful at communication. And I feel like it has gotten much worse since the start of this year. I feel like every business owner is holding their breath, waiting for the next shoe to drop. I feel like every business owner is trying to see what happens with the economy. I feel like every business owner is hoping for the best, but anticipating for the worst.
I don’t know what will happen. I am not a fortune teller. But I am tired of people saying they “support local” but are nowhere to be found when it comes to actual support. There is more to supporting your local community than patting yourself on the back and having some kids come in and buss some tables and give them a percentage of sales on a weeknight when you are still making a profit and getting some free promo on top of it at your restaurant. Good for you! You are giving back! But stop acting like you are a gift to the community. Honestly, the ego of some business owners is superb. Perhaps you think that of me and this blog post! But at the end of the day, you can run your business any which way you choose. You can be humble or you can have an ego. You can give back quietly or pat yourself on the back.
I have dealt with this contradiction my entire life. I want to push Inherent Dream forward. I want to promote our projects. I want to help others promote their projects. But I do not want to be an “influencer” or pay for likes on our social media channels or sell myself out. I have told many friends and family members, if you ever see me on some TV channel sometime hawking some product or doing a gossip segment, please come and find me and slap me across the face.
Yeah, but Trevor, don't you want to be famous?
I want the projects of Inherent Dream to get exposure, without selling out at all costs.
Well, then you might not get very far.
Well, then so be it. We’ll grab our corner of the universe and be grateful for everyone who has joined us for the ride... But mainly those who actually give damn about communication and have a little bit of humility in them.
We have never had more forms of technology than we do today in order to communicate with each other. And yet, most are so bad at it. Why is that?
2/13/2025 - Podcasts have jumped the shark. I have been saying this for a while now. You might ask yourself… How can you say that? Don’t you do that for a living? Well, yes. So I’ll be up front and save you some time…
Content is KING! There are lots of people with microphones. There are lots of people who love to hear themselves talk. But they aren’t really saying anything. They may have a platform, but seriously, I would put our content and interview skills up against anybody, and that is not me being cocky. That is me being confident. I am very proud of what I have built and what I am continuing to build here with Inherent Dream. The name of the game is evolution. The Inherent Dream Podcast Network is just part of the game. Inherent Dream is all about various forms of media. Where will we be in five years? Ten years? It may be a totally different game than it is today.
So to inspire you and your business, ask yourself the following… What is your content? What is it that sets your business apart? Are you doing the same things as your competitor? If so, why should I choose you over the competition? Let 2025 be the year of evolution.
There are a million podcasts, and then some, in this world. And you cannot begin to listen to them all. It is not possible. So how do you set yourself apart?
There is more to marketing than putting your business name on a pen or hat. There is more to advertising than social media bulletin boards. You have to put in the work. You have to get out there, roll up your sleeves and meet real people! It is about the human connection. Sure, I would love to work with you, but I also understand that podcasts aren’t for everybody. Some people are just against the concept, and that is OK. Some people will continue to advertise in the dying newspapers, and that is OK. And some people have a mindset of competition and will do everything to not recognize you (as if their validation matters), and that is OK too.
You want a strong return on investment. How will you obtain this? In terms of advertising is that with podcasts? Radio? TV? Print? Social media? I would recommend not putting all your eggs in one basket. Embrace evolution! One million dollars is cool. But you know what is even cooler? Two million dollars.
For me, it has never been about the money. I have been doing some form of podcasting for ten years now. If this idea fails or something else comes up short, I have a laundry list of projects I want to do. And I will do them. It’s not about the money. It’s about the connections we make. It is about impact. It is about how we make others feel. No one is going to remember your social media post from yesterday afternoon or last month. But they will remember how you communicate and how you made them feel.
2/12/2025 - So far, I can say that 2025 has been interesting. Honestly, each year I have been “official” with Inherent Dream it has been interesting. My definition of interesting is indeed, interesting. I am using the term as I believe it to be multiple things at different times. Let me explain…
I am blessed and thankful for those of you who have supported us through listening to the podcasts, sharing the content with friends and family, sponsored our content or just reached out to say hello. If you haven’t checked out The Inherent Dream Podcast Network, I invite you to do so. Perhaps you will find something to bring you a little joy, a little information, a little humor or something else. Perhaps you will like what we do and become a fan and with that we say welcome and thank you and please tell your friends. Perhaps you will check it out and realize it is not for you, and that’s OK too and we wish you well.
I’ve said it before and I will say it again… there is a lot of content in this world. There are lots of people talking but not a lot of people listening (talking in general terms here). And for those listening, you cannot begin to consume EVERYTHING. So find your circle. Find your passion. Carve your niche. Enjoy life!
I am struggling, at times, with trying to figure out what the next step is. In life, evolution is key. Authenticity is key. I want to continue to learn and grow the podcasts. I want things to get bigger and better. I feel like my entire life God has been trying to teach me how to be patient, and I have not passed this class yet. I am trying, but my anxieties are always high. I am always trying to plan ahead. I ask myself what the next steps are. I have trouble shutting my brain off. Any suggestions?
To close, I will say this… The Inherent Dream Podcast Network does continue to grow. I am proud of our organic growth model. These are real people… not bots and paid for likes and follows. I will continue to follow this path, even if my patience is tested.
